Reflection of the semester
Throughout this semester I really enjoyed how we learned about Canadian and World issues rather than just English literature. It was nice to have something different from a normal English class. I think it is really important for people to know about past problems so we don't repeat them. It's interesting because when we take History in school we learn about Canadian and World issues but residential schools are never talked about. So many Canadians don't understand what residential schools are or why so many people are upset about them. I think learning about that was the best part of the course because it was so interesting and eye-opening. Next, in my opinion Macbeth was the best Shakespeare play I have read so far. Not only because it was different and had an exciting story line, but also because Mrs. Linnerth broke it down for everyone. It's hard to read Shakespeare plays sometimes because we don't speak the way he wrote the play and we don't read them very often. For many of the students and myself we have a hard time just sitting down and reading it, so Mrs. Linnerth played an audio version and paused it often enough so that she could explain what was happening. This was a very effective way to teach the class about the play. Lastly, I found the digital aspect of this course was very efficient because it made due dates and handing things in fairly easy. It was good because we would get notifications and reminders for all assignments, which made the course load manageable. It was easier and more organized to not use paper copies for everything. Personally last year was sightly more stressful because I had to worry about getting a printed version of my good copies which was hard because I didn't have a working printer at the time. Also, this year we could hand things in wherever we were, whether we were home or away. It was effective especially because that's the way the future is heading. To summarize, I'm really happy with how the semester went in ENG-3UI. I liked the structure of the course and my teacher. If I had to change anything it would be to have the essay's more spread out from eachother. Thanks for a great semester!
